Old School Splendor at The Mansions on Fifth

Nestled in the Shadyside section of the burgh, the M on 5th occupies one of the four remaining hold outs of the city’s Millionaires Row.

Built by industrialist Willis Fisher McCook, preservationists Richard Pearson and Mary Del Brady majestically restored the estate into a 22 room boutique hotel after a long period of vacancy due to a ’04 fire.

The grandiose styles of the estate hark back to a simpler time, where robber barons ran the burgh with an iron… eh, steel fist. And if your looking for that old school, straight-out-the Shining charm, you won’t be disappointed.

Rod iron gates with gold leafing, a giant oak archway, hand carved woodwork, huge glass mosaics, tiled fireplaces… it was clear that the restoration was a true labor of love wherein every last detail was considered.

So if your in the 412 and trying to break off some of that turn of the century splendor, I can’t think of a better place to waste a weekend.
